Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) approval for sildenafil, a formulation containing sildenafil citrate, for sale to the public in the United States. The approval was based upon a Phase III study demonstrating the safety and efficacy of sildenafil in patients with erectile dysfunction.
Sildenafil was first approved by the FDA in 1996 for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
